What is ThinkPoint?
ThinkPoint is a malicious software program created by cyber criminals in order to lie to PC users and make them think that their computer has become infected with spyware or other viruses. In reality, ThinkPoint is not able to scan your PC and detect if you have any problems with your machine, because it is nothing more than a ?disguised? virus itself. ThinkPoint tries to exploit the security of your machine in order to gain access to your operating system files.
As soon as ThinkPoint infiltrates your PC, it will automatically pop up on your desktop, and begin interrupting the functionality of your computer through so-called ?Security Alerts? which will pop up in a new window with frustrating regularity. These alerts present the program as an authentic anti-virus that has scanned your computer and detected viruses on it, for instance an ?Unknown Win32/Trojan?. As well as this, ThinkPoint will claim that it is unable to remove some of these viruses because the heuristic module required is missing. ?Lucky? for you however, ThinkPoint is able to install these modules for a small fee of $90.
DO NOT TRUST THIS PROGRAM!
If this virus installs ielf onto your PC, not only will you waste money but you will leave your machine even more exposed. ThinkPoint could disconnect you from the internet, steal passwords or financial information, or even let more viruses get inside your system.
How to Remove ThinkPoint
So we know that ThinkPoint is a nasty thing to have on your machine, but how do you get rid of it? Often, ThinkPoint will disable existing anti-virus programs on your machine, or it simply won?t show up in a virus scan. So how do we remove it?
Step 1 ? Download Frontline Rogue Removerline Rogue
The first step is to download a software program called Frontline Rogue Remover. This powerful tool is able to remove fake anti-virus programs like ThinkPoint.
This program has been specifically designed to remove fake antivirus programs from your computer, and work by first showing the user how to stop the infection, then removing the virus for good. Typical anti-malware programs unfortunately don?t work to get rid this infection because they will not be able to load unless ThinkPoint is terminated.
Step 2 ? Clean out the Registry
While Frontline Rogue Remover will remove the infection from your computer, it won?t remove everything. Many settings will be left over on your Windows registry, which, if not cleaned up properly, could cause the malicious viruses to return later. By cleaning out your PC?s registry database, you can also fix a lot of the problems that have been caused by ThinkPoint?s malicious programming. ThinkPoint can damage and corrupt many of your system files, causing many of your programs and applications to perform badly or not function at all.
By using a registry cleaner to clean things up after you have removed ThinkPoint, you will see a huge difference in your PC?s performance, and will remove ThinkPoint forever.
What This Removal Process Does
You can open up your ?Task Manager? by pressing CTRL+ALT+DEL together and then clicking on the ?Processes? tab you will be able to see a list of all the processes running. Find the file listed above and click ?End Process?. This will stop that program from running.
> %UserProfile%\Start Menu\Programs\ThinkPoint
The directories above are where you will find the ThinkPoint program has installed itself on your computer. You will need to remove these files in order to remove all trace of ThinkPoint and stop it coming back. To do so, search ?My Computer? for these directories and then delete them permanently by clicking on it and pressing the SHIFT + DELETE keys. You need to do this because deleting it the normal way will only send it to your recycle bin.
Step 4 – Clean The Registry
You need to remove all of the settings and entries created on your registry by ThinkPoint in order to prevent it returning at a later date. By leaving them intact, the program is able to rebuild itself later on, causing you the same old problems again. Use a recommended registry cleaner to remove all these settings and entries for good, ensuring ThinkPoint never comes back. Highly Recommended.
