How to Uninstall SkyDrive in Windows 8.1

Windows 8.1 brought quite a few changes. Some of them were welcome, but there were also some that annoyed everyone. One of the new additions to the OS was closer integration with SkyDrive. This is very handy if you use it, but if you don’t, then SkyDrive became an annoyance in Windows Explorer. In this article we’ll show you how to easily uninstall SkyDrive from Windows Explorer in Windows 8.1.

Step 1: Disable SkyDrive

First of all you’ll need to disable SkyDrive through Group Policy. To do that, make sure you’re logged in as the administrator and follow these steps:

  1. Press the Windows key + R to open the Run… box
  2. Type gpedit.msc and press OK to open the Group Policy Editor
  3. In the Group Policy Editor window find Administrative Templates – Windows Components – SkyDrive
  4. Now click on Prevent the usage of SkyDrive for file storage
  5. Now simply select Enabled for this option and click OK
  6. SkyDrive will not show in Windows Explorer anymore

Step 2: Clean Out the Registry

Now that you’ve changed the settings in your Windows 8.1, it’s time to clean out the registry. Doing that will make sure that no left-over settings will interfere with your edits.

To clean out the registry, do the following:
