Windows 7 Boot Speedup Tutorial ? Steps To Make Windows 7 Instantly Boot Faster

Windows 7 is a super-fast operating system and has been designed to start-up very quickly.  If it takes a very long time to boot up, your system probably has issues that affect the loading speed of Windows.  You might be encountering boot problems as a result of files becoming corrupted, damaged or unresponsive, you may have recently updated a device driver or Windows itself, or you have may have recently installed software that loads up during Windows start-up and uses lots of the PC?s resources.  There are plenty of probable causes that will prevent the important settings are meant to load your system instantly from being read correctly.

What Causes Windows To Boot Up Slowly?

When Windows 7 takes a long time to boot up, this is clearly due to something else that takes up too many of the computer?s resources during the start-up process.  The typical reasons this happens is that some files have become damaged and caused Windows to become unresponsive. Here are the most common reasons for the slow boot speed of Windows 7:

  • Your computer will not be able to read the files it requires to run
  • Your PC will have some issues with its settings
  • Your computer will not be able to run properly

It might also be an issue with newly installed programs or device drivers, corrupted registry entries, Windows being out-dated, or because file indexing has been enabled. You need to identify the specific cause in order to resolve issues surrounding it.  You can speedup Windows 7 boot-up by using the steps outlined on this page.

How To Make Windows 7 Boot Up Faster

Step 1 ? Un-Install Any Programs You Don?t Use

The primary reason for your Windows to take too much time to boot is that your system contains resource-rich programs that are configured to load when Windows starts.  It is highly recommended to un-install those programs that you don?t use to be able to lessen the resources that are needed to effect a quick start-up.  To remove programs you don?t use, you can perform the following steps:

  • Click Start
  • Locate Control Panel
  • Click onto Add/Remove Programs
  • Select the program from the list that you want to remove and finally click the ?Uninstall? button.

Step 2 ? Make Sure Your Version Of Windows Is Up To Date

To make your PC run as smoothly as possible, you need to ensure that you have the latest updates and fixes from the manufacturer of Windows.  Microsoft continually releases hotfixes and updates for any known issues. These hotfixes prevent errors and security threats from plaguing your computer.  To update Windows, click Start> All Programs> Windows Update and then select all updates available for your PC.  To finish the update process, reboot your computer.

Step 3 ? Disable ?File Indexing?

Your computer can be configured to remember where all the files are stored in your hard drive by enabling ?File Indexing?, which can become highly problematic for the start-up process.  Windows will have to search though the system and make a note of where each file is placed in it, and that can lead to start up slow down and other errors.  To fix this problem, it is highly recommended that you disable the File Indexing feature from running.

  • Click Start
  • Type ?services.msc? in the box that appears.
  • Browse through the list that is shown and double-click on ?Windows Search?
  • From the start up dropdown list, select ?Disabled?
  • Click the ?OK? button
  • Close the Services window
  • Restart your PC for the changes to take effect.

This process will ensure that when Windows boots up again, it will run faster.

Step 4 ? Clean Out The Registry Of Windows

The ?registry? is another suspect as to why the boot process is tremendously slow.  The registry is an important component of Windows that stores up all the files and program settings that Windows uses to remember how programs are supposed to be loaded.  When registry keys that are involved in the startup process become damaged, the system becomes unresponsive, causing a prolonged delay.  To fix registry problems, you should use a registry cleaner to resolve issues on your registry.  Our recommended registry cleaning tool works by fixing 99% of all the errors found on your system and can even help stop viruses from infecting your computer.
