How To Speed Up Your PC

If your computer is running slowly, you need to be able to repair any of the problems which can cause the issues that the system may have. We’ve found that there are several common problems that will typically cause PC’s to run slower, meaning that if you want to be able to speed up your system, it’s vital you are able to repair these issues in order to boost the speed of your system & prolong its effective life cycle. This tutorial is going to show you how to make your system run much faster & smoother, regardless of how old it is or what version of Windows you’re running!

What Causes Computers To Run Slowly?

There are a number of reasons why PC’s may run slowly, including the likes of your system having problems with the Windows installation, errors with the settings of your computer and problems with the files your PC will be using to run. If you’re using your computer & finding that it will not run certain applications quickly, it will likely be a specific error with that program.

The general causes of the error include:

  • Your Windows installation will be damaged / corrupted
  • The settings of the Windows system will not work correctly
  • Your programs will have some sort of problem

The way to resolve these problems is thankfully very easy to pull off. You basically just need to be able to repair any of the problems that will lead the errors to show – which can be done by first ensuring that your system’s software is working correctly, and then that your computer has all the most important parts of the programs inside.

5 Steps To Make Your PC Run Faster

Step 1 – Close Any Programs You Are NOT Using

If you have any programs open that you are not currently using, but have running on your PC – you need to stop them from running, to allow the application you do want to use to haveĀ precedenceĀ over your systems’ resources. Most people don’t realize this, but each PC only has a set number of resources which it will use to help your system recall all sorts of pieces of data in its memory, as well as read a large number of important settings for your computer. Each time you open a new program, it has to use up some of these resources, thus leaving less available for other programs. In order to make your PC speed up, you should close down any application you are no longer using.

To do this, you can follow these steps:

  • Press CTRL + ALT + DEL on your keyboard
  • This will load up the “Task Manager” (Windows 7 users, click “Task Manager” on the blue screen that appears)
  • When in this new program, browse through any of the programs which you don’t need
  • When you find a program you don’t want, click “End Task” to stop it running

Note – this will only temporarily stop the program from running. When you restart your PC, all the programs will load up normally again!

Step 2 – Clean Out Any Viruses From Your System

If you already have an antivirus application, you may want to skip this step… but if you don’t, then you should download the one listed above and let it scan through your PC. It’s often the case that viruses will cause all sorts of problems & issues for computers, making it essential that you’re able to clean out any of the problems that your computer could have with them. To do that, we’re fortunate in that many anti-virus programs are able to fix the issues that you PC may have quickly and easily. You should definitely perform this step as it’s very easy to do, and highly effective.

Step 3 – Disable Any Firewall / Antivirus Applications On Your PC

The next step is to disable any firewall or antivirus applications on your computer. The problem here is that many people find these will take up a large amount of system resources as they will be continually scanning your system each time you use it. In order to fix your computer’s slow speed, you need to free up as many system resources as possible – which can be achieved by stopping any antivirus programs from running temporarily. To do this, you should right-click on the anti-virus icon in the bottom-right “System Toolbar” and then select “Exit” or “Disable”. This will stop the program from running, allowing your computer to run much smoother & more reliably again. This will only be a temporary step, and the protection will resume when you restart your PC.

Step 4 – Remove Any Junk Files From Your Computer

“Junk Files” are the files which your computer has on its hard drive, but are really not doing anything to help your system. If you have a slow PC, the “junk files” that you may have on there (in the form of Downloads, photos and other files) will continually cause problems for your computer. The good news is that you can delete this very easily, by either going to the folders where you tend to store a lot of the files that your computer will keep… or by using “Frontline Registry Cleaner” – which has an integrated junk file removal application.

Step 5 – Clean Out The Registry Of Your PC

The “Registry” is a central database which stores all the settings & options that your PC will be using to run. This is a huge cause of registry errors because of the way the registry will continually become damaged & corrupted through overuse. The registry database is basically like the “Yellow Pages” of your computer – a central storage facility which keeps all the important files & settings for your system inside, including everything from your most recent emails to your desktop wallpaper. If you’re experiencing your computer running slowly for any reason, it’s highly recommended you clean out any of the errors it may have with a registry cleaner program.
