Tuesday, October 22nd, 2013

A slow computer can be really annoying – you have to wait for ages to open a document, programs take a while to run, and even your browser keeps lagging and freezing. But your computer never used to be like that! So, why did it get so slow?

One of the main reasons for PC slowdowns are junk files. In this post we are going to explain what junk files are and how to delete them.

What are junk files?

Every time you open a file, run a piece of software, browser the Web or chat on Skype, your computer saves various temporary files. These files include temporary Internet files, browser cache and history, various system temp files and logs. They are called junk files because they don’t serve any purpose when they are kept for longer than necessary. (more…)

What Is the Windows Registry?

Everybody has heard at least something about the Windows registry, but very few people know and understand what it actually is. Well, it’s both simple and complicated at the same time. Basically, the registry is the central database of any Windows computer. Imagine a big library: it’s a building (Windows), there are rooms designated to different types of books and media (operating system structure), plus there are shelves (registry hives) and the books themselves (registry keys). 5 Ways to Keep Your PC at Peak Performance

Wednesday, May 8th, 2013

slow road

Most likely, computer maintenance isn’t your top priority. Nevertheless, it should be done once in a while to keep your PC running fast and stable. Your computer works hard and all this work can make it seem tired. Doing these five things will help you revive your sluggish PC and keep it at peak performance.

1. Eliminate memory leaks

Memory leaks occur when buggy programs on your computer start to steal your PC’s memory. This usually happens with Beta versions of browsers like Firefox and poorly developed software. If you see that your computer is slowing down without any apparent reason, press Ctrl+Shift+Esc to go to the Task Manager, go to the Processes tab and sort your running processes by memory usage. You will immediately see if a program is using too much memory. If you find a memory leak, try stopping and restarting the program that’s causing it. Chances are that it’s just a glitch. But if it persists, look for an update on the developer’s website – companies like Mozilla always try to release timely updates. And if there is none, it’s best to uninstall the program and look for an alternative. (more…)
