Having lots of files and folders makes your Mac slower because every folder you create has to be indexed by Spotlight and cached by the system. So make sure you don’t have too many folders. A good way to start is to manage folders in your Home folder. In addition to that, it’s good to keep your desktop clean, as a cluttered desktop consumes a lot of valuable system resources.
