Windows Error 1721 Fix – Remove Program 1721 Error Fix

Error 1721

The 1721 error is a common problem caused by the Windows Installer of your PC – a component designed by Microsoft to help properly install applications onto your computer. If you’re seeing the 1721 error, it generally means that your computer has a series of errors & problems which will be preventing it from loading up correctly, which is either going to be an issue caused by the files or settings of the Windows Installer application of Windows. To fix this problem, you need to be able to repair any of the possible problems that your PC may have – which can be done by following the steps outlined in this post!

What Causes The 1721 Error On Your PC?

The 1721 error is generally going to be caused by the way in which Windows will not be able to correctly process the settings that it requires to run. The error will often show up in this format:

Error 1721. There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personal or package vendor

The reason for this error showing is basically that your computer cannot correctly run the “Windows Installer” application – leading your system to run much slower and with a lot of errors. To fix this, you first need to ensure there are no problems with the files of Windows, then make sure all the settings of your PC are working correctly as well.

How To Fix Windows 1721 Errors

Step 1 – Re-Register The Windows Installer Service

“Windows Installer” is a central Windows feature, and consequently cannot be removed. This, however, does not exclude it from a series of potential problems that could cause it problems. This means that if you want to repair the 1721 error, it’s best if you re-register the feature. This can be done by following the steps here:

  1. Start your computer in Safe mode. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. Restart the computer.
    2. After the BIOS information is displayed, press F8.
    3. Use the DOWN ARROW key to select Safe Mode, and then press ENTER.
    4. Use the UP ARROW key and the DOWN ARROW key to select your computer, and then press ENTER.
  2. Log on to the computer as local administrator.
  3. Click Start, click Run, type cmd.exe, and then click OK.
  4. At the command prompt, type msiexec /unregister , and then press ENTER.
  5. At the command prompt, type msiexec /regserver, and then press ENTER.
  6. At the command prompt, type exit, and then press ENTER to close the command prompt.

This should allow your computer to correctly process the settings that the program requires to run, ensuring the 1721 error will not show again. Although this should work for most people, a big problem is that it will often not be enough to resolve the issue, meaning that if you’re still seeing the problem, please progress onto the next steps:

Step 2 – Run The “System File Checker”

The system file checker is a centralized Windows application which allows you to check whether your PC is correctly able to see all the settings that it needs to run. It could be the case that Windows will have a series of errors & problems that will be leading the 1721 error to show on your PC. To fix this, it’s recommended that you follow the steps below to repair your PC:

  1. Click Start, click Run, type cmd.exe, and then click OK.
  2. At the command prompt, type sfc /purgecache, and then press ENTER.Note You may be prompted to provide Windows installation source files when you run the sfc /purgecache command. If the command is completed successfully, you will receive the following message:
Windows File Protection successfully made the requested change.
  3. At the command prompt, type sfc /scannow, and then press ENTER.Note This command may take several minutes to finish. You may also be prompted to provide Windows installation source files when you run the sfc /scannow command.
  4. At the command prompt, type exit, and then press ENTER to close the command prompt.

Using the System File Checker program will basically repair any of the damaged or corrupted system files which Windows may have inside. Not only will this give your PC a significant boost, but it will also ensure your computer is able to properly read all the files that it will require to run – allowing your system to run much smoother as a result. If you find this doesn’t work, however, it’s then recommended you use the next step below:

Step 3 – Clean Out The Registry Of Windows (Recommended)
