Office 2010 Crash Fix – How To Stop Office 2010 Crashing The Easy Way

Office 2010

Microsoft Office 2010 might be the lastest version of this legendary software suite from Microsoft, but it’s still a big cause of numerous crashes. If you’re trying to use Microsoft Word 2010, Excel 2010, Access 2010 or any other component of the Office suite, and are finding that your system is crashing, there are luckily a number of steps you can take to fix the problem for good on your PC. This tutorial is going to show you how to fix the problems of Office 2010 crashing, allowing your computer to run much smoother and more effectively as a result.

What Causes Office & Word 2010 Crashes?

Microsoft Office & Word 2010 can crash for a large number of reasons. Like any software application, its files can become damaged or misplaced… but as this software is brand new, there could be a series of bugs and compatibility issues which may also be preventing Windows from being able to access the files it requires to read the program.  The reasons why your program may be crashing include:

  • Windows registry errors
  • Your Office software not working correctly
  • Windows being outdated
  • Office not having all the updates it requires
  • Conflicting software on your PC

The way to resolve the problem you’re experiencing is to basically fix any of the potential problems that are causing Office 2010 to crash on your PC. This can be done by first ensuring that the Office installation is working correctly, and then that Windows is functioning fine as well. Here’s what you need to do:

How To Fix Office 2010 Crashes

Step 1 – Restart Your PC

The first step to resolve this problem is to restart your PC. Office has been designed very well, and as a result, it may just be a slight glitch or problem that could be causing the crash you’re seeing. If you’ve only experienced the crash once, a restart could be all your PC needs to refresh the settings, files & options it requires to run, fixing the problem for you. Restart your PC, and if you see the problem occur again, then you should proceed onto step 2:

Step 2 – Re-Install The Office 2010 Application

If you restart your PC and still find your system is unable to run Office 2010, you should then re-install the program. This will not only allow your computer to better read the files it needs for the software, but will reset any damaged or incoherent settings that may have been causing some problems. To do this, you should follow the steps here:

  • Click “Start > Control Panel > Add / Remove Programs”
  • Locate “Office 2010”
  • Click UNINSTALL next to it
  • When the application loads, select “REMOVE” (not repair)
  • Follow the uninstall process
  • Restart your PC

After you’ve done this, reinstall Office 2010 from the CD or download, and then test out the application. If you find the problem still occuring, you should then proceed onto Step 3:

Step 3 – Update Windows

Office 2010 is brand new, meaning that many older versions of Windows may have damaged options that are preventing your PC from being able to load up the software correctly. To ensure that your computer is able to actually run the Office installation, it’s recommended that you download all the updates you can for your system, which can be done by following the steps below:

  • Click “Start” > All Programs > Windows Update
  • Select all the updates you can
  • Install the updates

This will upgrade Windows and ensure that it’s able to handle all the latest features, functions and options that Office 2010 requires to run. However, if this does not resolve the problem, you may also wish to use Step 4:

Step 4 – Clean Out The Registry Of Your PC

One of the most common problems that can lead to Office 2010 crashes is down to the “registry” of your PC becoming damaged or corrupted. This is a central database of Windows which stores all the files, settings and options that all your software uses to run. Office stores a huge number of settings inside the registry database, and is continually trying to load them all up whenever you attempt to use the program. However, because so many registry files are required to run the software, it’s often the problem that Windows will either be unable to read the files that it needs or will just skip over many important settings. You can resolve this problem by downloading and scanning with a registry cleaner program. This should solve the problems you have for good.

Recommended Fix

The best way to fix this problem in the most effective & reliable way is to download a registry cleaner and then let it scan through your PC. Not many people know this, but the “registry” of your PC is one of the biggest causes of problems for Windows systems, as it’s continually being used by all your software to help your computer run. Office is so complicated & advanced that any corrupt setting inside the registry could cause it to crash, making it recommended you fix the problem by using a registry cleaner tool to scan through your PC.
