The 1068 error is a general error that is occurs when one or more of Windows services have been disabled. One of those services are the Internet Connection Sharing Wizard. This enables computers to share its Internet connection with computers that are on a Local Area Network (LAN). So without the Internet Connection Sharing Wizard, computers on a LAN are not able to access the Internet because they do not have the authority.
What Causes The 1068 Error?
The 1068 error is caused when a particular computer that is on a LAN (Local Area Network) is not able to access the Internet because it doesn’t have its required services running. The Internet Connection Sharing Wizard is a service that allows computer that are on the same LAN to share each others Internet connection, but what’s stopping that from happening is the service has been turned off. The following error is what you may receive:
“An error occurred while Internet Connection Sharing was being enabled. The dependency service or group failed to start.”
“1068: Dependency service or group failed to start.”
How To Fix The 1068 Error
Step 1 – Turn On All Dependant Services
The “Dependant Services” of Windows are basically what it uses to help your computer process the various functions & options which it will require to run. Despite many of Windows’ services & programs running automatically, many of them will actually become damaged and corrupted – preventing them from loading. To resolve this, you should first perform these steps:
- Click Start, then select Help and Support.
- Under Pick a Task, click Use Tools to view your computer information and diagnose problems.
- In the Tools area, click System Configuration Utility.
- In the right pane, click Open System Configuration Utility. This opens the System Configuration Utility.
- Click the Services tab.
Make sure all the following services are turned on. To turn on a service, click to select the check box.
- Application Layer Gateway Service
- Network Connections
- Network Location Awareness (NLA)
- Plug and Play
- Remote Access Auto Connection Manager
- Remote Access Connection Manager
- Remote Procedure Call (RPC)
- Click OK, and then click Restart.
- After Windows restarts, rerun the Internet Connection Sharing Wizard.
Step 2 – Clean Out The Registry
The registry is also another cause of the 1068 error. The “registry” is a large database for Windows, which stores all the important settings & functions that your computer will be using to run. The 1068 error will often be caused by registry settings becoming damaged & corrupted, making it essential that you’re able to clean the possible problems this part of your PC has by using a reliable registry cleaner tool. Cleaning the registry will ensure that all problematic files and faulty components get deleted out of the system. However, before proceeding with this method, a registry cleaner application must be downloaded. Choose wisely, and make sure the program you go with comes highly recommended by computer experts, as some registry cleaners are outdated and ineffective.
